Full moon and empty arms

Full moon and empty arms
The moon is there for us to share
But where are you?
A night like this could weave a memory
And every kiss could start a dream for two
Full moon and empty arms
Tonight,
 I'll use the magic moon
To wish upon
And next full moonIf my one wish comes true
My empty arms will be filled with you
Full moon and empty arms
Tonight,
 I'll use the magic moon
To wish upon
And next full moonIf my one wish comes true
My empty arms will be filled with you.

Cloud Atlas

“Cloud Atlas” is a movie about migratory souls and wayward civilizations, loaded with soaring themes and flights of feeling, as vaporous and comprehensive as its title. Big ideas, or at least earnest intellectual conceits, crowd the screen along with suave digital effects and gaudy costumes. Free will battles determinism. Solidarity faces off against domination. Belief in a benevolent cosmic order contends with fidelity to the cruel Darwinian maxim that “the weak are meat the strong do eat.”

It is a movie that is a product of our age of internet-driven universal knowledge and vision, and the freedom we have to travel the world and jump between ages, genres, images and identities at our will. It reminds us that we are human and that we can still hear our heart beat, if we listen.

But the New York Times' A.O. Scott finds "Cloud Atlas" to be "an unruly grab bag of styles, effects and emotions held together, just barely, by a combination of outlandish daring and humble sincerity." Still, he muses," "maybe the achievement of 'Cloud Atlas' should be quantified rather than judged in more conventional, qualitative ways. This is by no means the best movie of the year, but it may be the most movie you can get for the price of a single ticket."

When you put it that way, six stories, 500 years and 172 minutes in one movie isn't just ambitious — it's also a bargain.

If I Tell You I Love You

“Confession”

waiting for death
like a cat
that will jump on the
bed

I am so very sorry for
my wife

she will see this
stiff
white
body

shake it once, then
maybe
again:

‘Hank!’

Hank won’t
answer.

it’s not my death that
worries me, it’s my wife
left with this
pile of
nothing.

I want to
let her know
though
that all the nights
sleeping
beside her

even the useless
arguments
were things
ever splendid

and the hard
words
I ever feared to
say
can now be
said:

I love
you.

Life of Pi

Pi Patel can tell a story that makes you believe in God, but Ang Lee has gone one better: he has made a film that restores your faith in cinema.

Ang Lee's "Life of Pi" asks that we take a leap of faith along with a boy named Pi Patel and a Bengal tiger named Richard Parker as an angry ocean and the ironies of fate set them adrift. Their struggle for survival is as elegant as it is epic with the director creating a grand adventure so cinematically bold, and a spiritual voyage so quietly profound, that if not for the risk to the castaways, you might wish their passage from India would never end. There are always moral crosscurrents in Lee's most provocative work, but so magical and mystical is this parable, it's as if the filmmaker has found the philosopher's stone.

Life of Pi is a cinematic tall-tale parable of the best kind, and stands alongside other acclaimed films in the genre, such as Forrest Gump and Big Fish. However, unlike those more whimsical tales, there is something deeper and more serious at work in Pi - but director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Brokeback Mountain) manages to balance the serious elements with the fantastical ones, while making it all look truly spectacular (on a whole other level) thanks to his work in the 3D format. If you’re wondering: this movie is definitely worth the upgraded ticket price.

"Life of Pi" is one of the year's most beautiful, original and adventurous pictures.

Misty blue

Oh, it's been such a long, long time
Looks like I'd get you off my mind
Oh, but I can't
Just the thought of you
Turns my whole world misty blue

Oh honey, just the mention of your name
Turns the flicker to a flame
Listen to me good, baby
I think of the things we used to do
And my whole world turns misty blue

Ooooh baby, I should forget you
Heaven knows I tried
Baby, when I say that I'm glad we're through
Deep in my heart I know I've lied
I've lied, I've lied

Ooooh honey, it's been such a long, long time
Looks like I'd get you off my mind
But I can't
Just the thought of you, my love
My whole world turns misty blue

Ooooh, Oh, I can't, Oh , I can't
Oh, I can't forget you
My whole world turns misty blue
Ooooh, Oh, my love
My whole world turns misty blue
Baby, baby, baby, baby
Baby, I can't forget you
My whole world turns misty blue

Where you're not below me anymore

Wish list

I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need
I don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you
I don't want a lot for Christmas
There is just one thing I need, and I
Don't care about the presents
Underneath the Christmas tree
I don't need to hang my stocking
There upon the fireplace
Santa Claus won't make me happy
With a toy on Christmas day
I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
All I want for Christmas is you, youuuuu, ooh ooh
baby, oh oh
I won't ask for much this Christmas
I won't even wish for snow, and I
I just want to keep on waiting
Underneath the mistletoe
I won't make a list and send it
To the North Pole for Saint Nick
I won't even stay up late
To hear those magic reindeer click
'Cuz I just want you here tonight
Holding on to me so tight
What more can I do
Oh, Baby all I want for Christmas is you, youuuu, ooh
baby
All the lights are shining
So brightly everywhere
And the sound of children'
Laughter fills the air
And everyone is singing
I hear those sleigh bells ringing
Santa won't you bring me
The one I really need
Won't you please bring my baby to me quickly, yeah
Ohh ohh, I don't want a lot for Christmas
This is all I'm asking for
I just want to see my baby
Standing right outside my door
Ohh ohh, I just want you for my own
More than you could ever know
Make my wish come true
Oh, Baby all I want for Christmas is you, you ooh,
baby
All I want for Christmas is you, ooh baby

And that's how you became

My only man of the hour.

P.S- I couldn’t learn your face by heart
it turned and we were gone
but our eyes had met head on
engraved on the prism face and in the memory
       first incubation in neverland
       sudden destiny.
        ...

What's going on, love ?

Don't punish me with brutality
Come on talk to me
So you can see
What's going on
What's going on
Tell me what's going on
I'll tell you ya, what's going on
Right on, baby
Right on, baby
Right on, baby

Amour

Amour is a film about the disappearance of a human being; of what one man does in the face of losing the woman he has loved his whole life, every day, little by little. It is a psychological drama, tinged with philosophy and moments of exquisite, heartbreaking poetry. But it is also a luminous love story – one that is genuine and recognisable, between two characters that we fully believe in and sympathise with. Georges and Anne have spent many long, happy years together, and now, slowly and sadly, their happiness is coming to an end.

The icy message may be that love is not a consolation as we face death. Rather the reverse. Love will give your death meaning, but make it no less unbearable.

A painful chamber drama about the aftermath of a stroke for an octogenarian couple, Michael Haneke's second Palme d'Or winner still has his trademark chill.

So this is Chritsmas

Trouble with the curve

Eastwood, 82, doesn't hide the fact that he's basically recycling his gruff character from 2008's Gran Torino, the gun-toting Detroit widower who warned interlopers to "get off my lawn." But there's a crucial difference. As actor and director, Eastwood gave Torino a no-bull, hard-ass tenacity that wasn't afraid of dark corners or unruly emotions. Lorenz shows an aversion to making waves. He makes Trouble With the Curve a tidier piece of mainstream business. Still, there's no denying the connection Eastwood makes with Adams. They have an irresistible talent for the game.

It is always a pleasure to see this man on the screen.

I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast
I fall in love too terribly hard
For love to ever last
My heart should be well-schooled
'Cause I been fooled in the past
But still I fall in love too easily
I fall in love too fast

Anna Karenina

Mr. Wright’s “Anna Karenina” is different. It is risky and ambitious enough to count as an act of artistic hubris, and confident enough to triumph on its own slightly — wonderfully — crazy terms.
Pious Tolstoyans may knit their brows about the stylistic liberties Mr. Wright and the screenwriter, Tom Stoppard, have taken, but surely Tolstoy can withstand (and may indeed benefit from) their playful, passionate rendering of his masterpiece.

The challenge of “Anna Karenina” is that Tolstoy’s loose and baggy monster of a novel is more than large, bigger than great: it is comprehensive. As it glides among its many characters, reading their thoughts and dissecting their desires, the book becomes a vivid panorama of an entire society, you might even say a whole species. “Anna Karenina” does not take place, as movie-trailer voice-overs might say, “in a world” of such and such exotic customs. The book lives in the world, in the busy, contingent present tense of mid-19th-century Imperial Russia, which contained everything Tolstoy knew. To try to reproduce that world according to the canons of 21st-century movie realism would be to diminish and falsify his narrative, which ascends through cultural and social detail into a realm of universal emotion.

Mr. Wright’s brilliant gamble is to arrive at this level of emotional authenticity by way of self-conscious artifice. The cities of Moscow and St. Petersburg are rendered as elaborate stage sets. (Sarah Greenwood is the production designer.) Characters make their way around props, past painted backdrops and through catwalks, ropes and backstage rigging. You get the sense that in these bureaucratic offices, ministerial meetings and aristocratic households, everyday life is a form of theater. To play your part in this intricately hierarchical society you must speak your lines, hit your marks, know your place and beware of improvisation.
But the film itself is the very opposite of stagy. The camera hurtles through the scenery as if in hungry pursuit; the lush colors of the upholstery and the costumes pulsate with feeling; the music (by Dario Marianelli) howls and sighs and the performances are fresh, energetic and alive. Compressing the important events of Tolstoy’s thousand pages into an impressively swift two hours and change, Mr. Wright turns a sweeping epic into a frantic and sublime opera.

Wright's movie is a dazzling affair, a highly stylised treatment of a realistic novel, superbly designed by Sarah Greenwood and edited by Melanie Ann Oliver, with rich photography by Seamus McGarvey, sumptuous costumes by Jacqueline Durran and a highly romantic Tchaikovskian score by Dario Marianelli, all previous Wright collaborators. The theatre stage with its oil lamp footlights is sometimes a real stage with 19th-century flats and sometimes a venue for actual events such as the provincial racecourse where Count Vronsky has his terrible fall. The pit of the auditorium becomes a Moscow ballroom where Anna seduces Vronsky away from Kitty on the dancefloor, an opera house and the St Petersburg council chamber where Karenin conducts his business.

Yet it has to be said that the film is only occasionally touching and rarely truly moving. The death of the wheel-tapper, accidentally trapped under a train, is infinitely more affecting and memorable than Anna's suicide that it is carefully set up to foreshadow. This has something to do with the stylised presentation. Our constant admiration for Wright's virtuosity, initially attractive and exciting, ends up as a major distraction. This kind of extreme theatricality is not necessarily unsuited to cinema, but it should not become a barrier to emotional involvement.

I hope

You reached out to me, and I didn’t see your text until quite some time later. Although I responded as soon as I saw it, I’m sorry I didn’t respond sooner. I hope you know I love you and am continually amazed by you. I hope you know how much you mean to me. I hope you know how your strength has inspired me. I hope you are safe.

I wrote this for you

Blue is the color of love

Blue is the color of love
When your lover has gone from you
Your heart is filled with longing to have new
What came once from others

When you open your heart for two
But now it's true and you realize
What illusion can do
If you close your eyes
But the dreaming is over now

So blue is the color of you
When you're waiting for someone who
Will always make your dreams come true

But now it's true and you realize
What illusion can do
If you close your eyes
But the dreaming is over now

So blue is the color of you
When you're waiting for someone who
Will always make your dreams come true

So malicious and so full of guile

Heart of mine,
Be still
You can play with fire,
But you'll get the bill
Don't let him know
Don't let him know that you love him
Oh, don't be a fool, don't be blind
Heart of mine

Heart of mine,
Go back home
You've got no reason to wander
No reason to roam
Don't let him see
Don't let him see that you need him
Oh, don't push yourself over the line
Heart of mine

Heart of mine,
Go back where you been
The only trouble with you
Is if you let him in
Don't let him hear
Don't let him hear where you're goin'
Oh, I'm tired of ties that bind
Heart of mine

Heart of mine,
So malicious and so full of guile
I give you an inch
And you take a mile
Don't let yourself fall
Don't let yourself stumble
Oh, do the time, don't do the crime
Heart of mine

Heart of mine…

Oh, oh, oh…

P.S- Practically every moment of the day you are in my thoughts. I miss you.

P.S- But you are the only one that I ever wanted to .
